Vespa S Review
Vespa in Indonesia has introduced different models like LXV, Primavera, Sprint featuring latest version of engine, accessories, and equipment. Vespa S design is inspired from the successful model of Vespa Primavera of 1970s. The latest technology used for the 3 valve design of the 125cc engine has resulted in getting better fuel efficiency than previous versions of the same. Sporty design, youthful performance and economical price tag make it a special motorcycle among the models from the manufacturer.
Vespa S feature standard design of a scooter with conventional styled front body panel and fender on the front wheel. The handlebar assembly given classic look with hexagonal shaped headlight with clear lens. Overall dimensional features include length 1770mm and width 705mm, saddle height of 785mm gives comfortable posture for the rider. The long flat seat tough won’t add much to the styling of the vehicle, it does provide good posture and cushioning for the rider and pillion passenger. The foot rest space in between handlebar and seat is made spacious enhancing comfort of the rider.
Engine, economy, and performance
Vespa S model comes with 124.5cc engine delivering power of 9.36hp at 7750rpm and torque of 9.5Nm at 6000rpm. The engine is connected to rear wheel through continuously variable transmission. The easy acceleration responses from the engine can propel the vehicle to reach 0 to 60kmph in about 10 seconds from idling. It can reach maximum speed of 85kmph with single rider, with a pillion passenger, an extra acceleration would be needed to reach the top speed. Fuel tank capacity of 7 Liter is used making it convenient for limited range of usage. In good road conditions, one can get mileage of an average of 55kmpl, with full tank filling of petrol it can be used for around 250kms in city conditions.
The longer wheelbase enable for good balancing of the scooter besides providing better comfort for the rider and pillion passenger. The quick responsive engine helps for faster pick up on the straight ahead road. Though the wheels with tires rating 110/70 R11 at front and 120/70 R10 at the rear get best of the grip, one has to bit extra careful while taking sharp turns. The ground clearance provided is just alright and the rider has to slow down for overcoming the road humps and hollows. The unplanned road humps can be tough hurdles for smooth riding, a cautious riding would prevent underbody hitting.
Safety, brakes and miscellaneous
The Vespa S is classical design scooter with basic features. The ride quality is enhanced with the superior quality of suspension at front and rear. The energetic performance of the engine and final drive can enable the rider to go at higher speeds and the front disc brakes and rear drum brakes assures safe braking at minimum time. There ample space available for storage under the seat.
Vespa S has good blending of charm of the legendary models from earlier generation versions and youthful performance of the present generation motorcycles. It makes a good selection as a daily commuter with stand-apart stance among the crowd of vehicles on road.
