Vespa GTS Review
Piaggio has taken the scooters for next level with the launch of Vespa GTS. The bold styling given and with new stylish grill on right flank and wheel rims with new black finish has given it special stance with the sibling models like Sprint, Primavera. The redefined style statement of Original Vespa with modern outlook making it unique. Though there is a lot of similarity between this and the sibling models from Vespa such as LX, LXV, Primavera, Sprint, it reminds of the original Vespa models of 60’s however with latest accessories and equipment and ride quality.
Piaggio Vespa GTS has lots of featured to give it a special image on the road. The front body panel is made slightly curvy at the bottom. Clear lens indicator lamp, Logo at the center and the headlight with clear lens give it a classic look. The handlebar finely designed to provide a firm grip for the steering. There is an improvement in dimensional features with length as 1950mm, width 740mm. The wheelbase of 1350mm provides for excellent weight distribution with an overall weight of 128Kg. Ground clearance is also improved from earlier models giving better ride over road humps and hollows.
Engine, Economy and performance
Vespa has introduced latest version 154.8cc single cylinder four stroke engine with a power of 11.5hp at 7500rpm and torque of 12Nm at 5000rpm. The final drive consists of continuously variable transmission connecting the engine to the road wheels. It used the forced air cooling system and the power delivered is enhanced with fuel injection system.
The smooth performance engine can deliver a mileage of 60kmpl, a combination of good fuel efficiency and fuel tank capacity of 9 Litres is handy for riding over 160kms in one full tank fuel filling. The powerful engine responding briskly to the acceleration propels the scooter to reach speeds 45kmph and more at a faster rate. Though it will take a bit extra time for reaching higher speeds, one can ride at 90kmph in a good road condition.
The easy to operate steering and a good grip of tyres with rating 110/70 R12 and rear tires with rating 130/70 R12 fitted on stylish and strong alloy wheels help for easy riding over congested and high-density traffic conditions. Though it is a pretty good performer for short distance top speed riding, it struggles a bit for long rides.
The saddle height is given slight uplift taking to 800mm provide additional comfort for the taller persons. The intelligently designed leg space provides comfortable posture with for the rider adds to feel good factor over long rides. Foldable footrest for pillion rider provides a firm grip for the pillion rider helping to be seated comfortably while taking sharp turns and short distance speeding at the city traffic conditions.
Safety, braking, miscellaneous
Piaggio has made it one easy ride over any road conditions with firm grip tyres and easy to operate strong brake system. The 220mm disc brakes are used at both front and rear wheels provide easy control for the rider to stop the vehicle safely in shortest interval. The improved ground clearance makes it convenient to ride on any given conditions and avoids underbody hitting, the strong tubular frame can withstand maximum load.
Vespa GTS is a dynamic performance scooter with a blend of maximum power and also light in weight for easy handling. The excellent body design and high reliability of the engine and accessories used make it convenient for long lasting usage.
