Yamaha's MT-09 is an exclusive new concept in sports bike segment with a condensed new chassis and high power three cylinder engine. This latest technology machine is designed for the riders who believe that the four-wheelers move the body while two-wheelers move the soul. The pacemaker of this new breed of animal is the feather weight 850cc three cylinder engine that bangs out magnificent power and enormous torque.
Body structure of this bike is typically based on the aluminium frame. The front fascia is characterized by a lower set headlamp that provides the bike a pouncing stance. The suspension forks are finished in a galvanized gold finish, thus imparting the much needed ruggedness to the bike's overall profile. Well-crafted curvy fuel tank with side fenders are responsible for giving the bike a bold look.
The aluminium frame is attached at the rear, which holds the number plate and the side indicator. A sharp and sturdy exhaust is attached to enhance the grace of the bike. The bike also exhibits a silver colour handlebar for perfect rider posture, and a digital meter is attached above it, which includes speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, current gear, total distance travelled and some other technical tips. The overall dimension of bike measures 2,075 mm X 815 mm X 1,135 mm (L X W X H) and minimal ground clearance of 135 mm.
Engine, Economy & Performance
Talking about its pacemaker, it carries a 847cc 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve engine unit, which puts out about 115 PS of power at 10,000 rpm and maximum adrenalin pumping torque of 87.5 Nm at 8,500rpm. The power block is matched with constant mesh 6-speed gearbox, which is responsible for lightning gear shifting. This unique design bike gets from naught to 100 kmph in 2.8 seconds and able to reach the top speed of 210 kmph.
Along with die-cast aluminium frame and swingarm, the bike weighs around 188kg and make the machine quick and responsive. Due to its diamond cut frame with telescopic front forks and swingarm (Link type suspension) it provides exceptional handling.
To provide road hugging feel to the rider, it has tyre size of 120/70ZR17M/C (58W) at the front and 180/55ZR17M/C at the rear, which results in enhancing the grip of the bike on different terrains.
Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous
For effective braking, MT-09 is fitted with a 298 mm hydraulic dual disc brake at the front and 245 mm hydraulic disc at the rear. The whole braking configuration provides epic braking so the rider can ride the bike on a high speed with full confidence.
The past few years have been quite difficult for Yamaha due to the recession. Now the brand has high expectation from this unique and effective motorcycle to bring back its market position.
