Porsche Boxster Review

Specialized in manufacturing high-performance cars, Porsche tried its fate in automobile in the year 1931. With some decent years passed, this German auto giant nourished technology and quality and were able to gift the world with some of the finest models of the era. Recognized as the sales booster of the brand, the Boxster was first introduced in the year 1996. Since then the roadster has a passed a couple of decent mutations and now with the new Boxster roaring in the road, the brand has set up a great milestone in the world of super cars. Being the first roadster to be designed since the 550 spyder, the Boxster stands way ahead of its rivals, reason being the exotic looks and a revved up engine.

Engine, mileage and variants

With breathtaking performance and flawless aesthetics, the new Boxster comes in three variants- Boxster, Boxster S and the pumped-up Boxster GTS. Traditional flat six engine housed in the roadster accommodates an engine capacity varying from 2706 cc to 3436 cc. VariCam Plus technology installed in the engine allows it to churn a maximum power ranging from 265 hp to 330 hp (at 6700 rpm). Rear wheel drive train of the Boxster is availed with a peak torque that ranges from 280 Nm to 370 Nm (between 4500 rpm to 6500 rpm). With optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission mated with the engine, the Boxster accelerates from 0-100 km/h in an incredible 4.7 seconds(with sports+ mode). But when it comes to speed, the manual transmission enhances the performance and makes it to achieve a top speed of 281 km/h. Blending some decent technologies in the power plant, the Boxster delivers a laudable mileage of 12.65 km/l.

Refined look of the Boxster matches with the performance it is glorified with. Vertical contour headlamps of the Porsche is taken from the 60's and 70's racing car concept. Besides this, long air intakes of the Boxster are responsible for the grunting of the engine, as it transports ample air to the engine bay. Priceless lines and the stretched silhouette of the car adds to the aerodynamic factor of the vehicle. Smoked LED tail lights and redesigned rear apron gives the Boxster a even more sportier and wider look. With increased wheelbase, the Boxster holds a precise dimension range of 4374mm-4404mm X 1801mm X 1273mm-1282mm (LXWXH). In order to grip the tarmac while cruising with high speed, the Boxster comes with all season tyre with alloy size ranging from 18-inch to 20-inch.

Brutal looks of the Boxster transfers a cozy and driver oriented interior to the roadster. Intelligent operating concept and geometric arrangement of the controls brings to you the real sports car experience. Dynamic styling of the dash and the sporty leather seats makes you feel like driving a mean machine. Wise management of the controls with low seating arrangement of the driver is done without compromising the real roadster essence. “Boxster GTS” logo on the door sills reflects the power-packed performance it is bestowed with. Aluminum finished gear switcher and steering wheel are located in such a way that the driver may have an easy and brisk shifting of gears. Standard Burmester High-End Surround Sound-System of the car comes with 12-speaker arrangement that offers you quality acoustic, besides this the active subwoofers integrated to the bodyshell avails you with impulse accuracy. Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system comes with 7-inch screen that offers a decent interface with the Boxster. Total luggage space of 280-litres settles your useful amenities at the rear as well as in the front.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) of the Boxster is the concept derived from the real motorsport experience. This cross drilled discs enhances the fuel economy and performance of the vehicle, due its light weight concept. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) comes as standard in the GTS, which enhances the stability of the vehicle by altering the damping forces according to the road gradient. Porsche Stability Management (PSM) comes incorporated with automatic brake differential and anti-slip management that coordinates the engine speed and braking force of the Boxster, thus enhancing the stability while maneuvering critical corners. Aluminum and steel composite light weight body structure of the car holds ample strength to bear impacts, at the same time air bags packed to the interior allows you to escape severe injuries during crash. Composite construction of the roll-over protection creates a survival space in th event of roll-over.

Tantalizing aesthetics and gassed-up power plant of the Boxster is unmatched and surely stands as a tough contender in its segment. But a quick glance at the price tag may leave you sighing.
