Minerva GTR 170 Review
Minerva has a lot of models to offer meeting wide interest of the customers and it has taken the competition to newer heights with the introduction of 170cc engine in the GTR series of bikes. Though most of the features are in common with GTR150, the boost in power, bolder in appearance, usage of latest technology equipment getting it good response from the customers.
The design features of GTR170 matches with GTR150 in almost all parameters except the engine power and torque. The broad front panel with twin headlights and the cowl on handle bar reminds of the styling of a magic vehicle. The side panels are made very attractive with design and graphics. The saddle height of 830mm and the smart design of the handlebar favors stress-free long rides. The dimensional features include 2100mm X780mm (Length X Width), the body is nicely balanced of the wheelbase of 1438mm.
Engine, economy, and performance
Minerva GTR 170 has single cylinder air cooled 169cc engine delivering Power of 12hp@7200rpm and Torque of 11Nm at 6200rpm. The engine is mated with 5-speed manual transmission with one down and other up-shift for gear selection. The fuel supply system uses carburetor for supplying a fine mixture of air and fuel to the combustion chamber. The ignition system consists of electronic ignition as well as optional kick started for usage in case of low battery voltage for electric start. The smooth performance engine responds quickly for acceleration inputs and it can reach a top speed of 125kmph in shortest possible time. Being a carburetor vehicle, the engine struggles a bit in riding over higher altitudes. In city riding conditions, it can give a mileage of around 45kmpl and it can deliver higher fuel efficiency of 55kmpl in highway road conditions.
The rider posture is made accurate with good design of footrest, knee support on body panel and wide and cushioned seating giving accurate posture for the rider. The smooth operation of the ignition switch starts the engine and faster increase on engine rpm with acceleration inputs given a quick and sportive start from the idling. The easy to operate handlebar make it very convenient for taking sharp turns and curves while overtaking other vehicles in rush hour traffic. Tyres with rating 70/80 R17 for front and 70/90 R17 used for getting better road grip and enhances speed with a better grip on normal and slippery road surfaces as well. The pillion rider seat is positioned accurately for comfortable seating during high-speed riding.
Safety brakes and miscellaneous
GTR 170 does not have much of latest safety equipment like anti-lock braking system, however, the disc brakes with calipers are easy to operate and responds quickly with the foot operated lever for rear and hand operated lever for the front. High strength alloy wheels and offer the long-lasting reliability of the vehicle and suspension system takes care of damping high vibrations on uneven road conditions. The digital instrument cluster displays an accurate reading of speedometer, odometer and display fuel level.
Minerva GTR170 has a genuine combination of performance and crowd pulling styling makes it a good option worth considering among 170cc segment bikes.
