Introduction

The Austrian motorcycle giant – KTM has been the undisputed ruler of the off-road biking scene, thanks to its extremely potent Enduro bike range. For years, KTM has crafted off-road machines that have won numerous racing titles. And the gem of this off-road fleet by KTM is the 300 EXC. This full blown Enduro monster has registered numerous off-road titles to its name. Powered by a 300cc two-stroke, single cylinder engine this machine delivers plenty of torque and power to become the first to cross the finish line. Based on a high strength, lightweight, chrome-molybdenum steel frame, the latest 300 EXC offers the best power-to-weight ratio, than any of its competitors. Design

The off-road champion by KTM – 300 EXC sports a more dynamic design language in its new generation. The bike is based on a more rigid and agile frame, that has been designed to bestow relaxed ergonomics and superb balance. The bike sports a durable, high tensile strength aluminum alloy made tapered Neken handlebars that can be fixed in four positions allowing the rider to adjust it to his requirements. Along with this, the open hand guards on the handlebar provide riders protection, and also accentuate its sporty appeal. In its 2016 edition, the 300 EXC features new, fresh body graphics that complements its off-road style and give it an edge over other bikes in its segment. The bike features a pretty basic digital speedometer, which displays information and warning lights in a minimalistic manner. Furthermore, the bike gets a lightweight, compact fuel tank that has been specially designed for Enduro use.

Engine, Economy & Performance

The 300cc dirt bike by KTM has all the elements in it to make it a race winning off-road vehicle. The 300 EXC draws power from a potent 293.3cc 2-stroke, single cylinder engine. Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the bike tops at a speed of 180km/h, which is good enough to win a race. Also, with KTM custom engine tuning, customers can get their bike's engine retuned to produce a desirable amount of power and torque output. With this, the rider can either choose for an excess of torque if he wishes to make his 300 EXC an ultimate off-road champion or can opt for extra power output if he wishes to make it a dual purpose bike. Also, the 2-stroke engine delivers a significant fuel economy of 30Kmpl. Though the power output of the bike is low as compared to other 300cc bikes, it makes up for it in torque delivery, which is essential for off-road riding.

Handling

The KTM 300 EXC offers a precise blend of well-proportioned dimensions, lightweight agile frame, ergonomic handlebar, slim fuel tank and appropriate foot peg location. All these attributes help the rider to effortlessly ride the bike in difficult terrains, without a hitch. The bike is based on a highly rigid chrome-molybdenum steel frame that contributes to the bike's lightweight of 102kg and nimble handling. The slim fuel tank, four point adjustable handlebars and adjustable seat height creates a natural riding position that allows the rider to be fully concentrated on the race. Its low saddle height of 960mm is adjustable in a range of +/- 50 mm. Furthermore, the bike gets WP upside down forks at the front, the upside down forks have a wide travel of 300 mm. At the rear, the bike is equipped with WP PDS monoshock, with a travel range of 335mm. This allows the bike to absorb shocks and bumps on dirt terrains. The bike has a ground clearance of 355mm, which contributes to its superb off-road performance and a wheelbase of 1482mm that enhances its balance and stability.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Similar to other bikes from the Enduro series, KTM has also equipped the new 300 EXC with an advanced braking mechanism. The bike is equipped with cutting-edge Brembo brakes - 260 mm single disc at the front and 220 mm single disc at the rear. The lightweight and powerful disc brakes require less lever pressure and thus improve braking efficiency. Furthermore, the bike is equipped with advanced Maxxis Enduro tyres, which are specially made for KTM Enduro series. These tyres have enough tread that ensure sufficient grip and traction in off-road conditions.
