Nissan Evalia Review
The light commercial vehicle launched by the automobile company Nissan, in the year 2012 made its first debut launch in India. In the country, it gave strong competition to Toyota Innova and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga during that time. From this, you can guess about the capability and popularity of Evalia, especially in the passenger family oriented market. Continuous increase in the sale numbers of this vehicle in India, grabbed attention of other country dealers also. As a result of which, the brand unveiled this car for residents of Indonesia as well. There in Indonesia, it grabbed attention of the people and delivered same response. For residents, it is available in 1.5-litre DOHC, in-lined 4 cylinder 16V Dual CVTC engine that gives power output of 109 PS at 5600 rpm along with the peak torque of 143 Nm at 4000 rpm. This is sufficient enough to travel riding a passenger vehicle. Available in three different trims – 1.5 ST, 1.5 SV and 1.5 XV Highway Star, the same engine is paired up with five-speed manual transmission and 4-speed automatic transmission.
Coming to the designing part, exteriors are provided with a very basic yet intricate design line with front and rear bumper in the same body color, chrome-finish made radiator grille on the lower side of the bonnet, 14-inch wheels on the side profile with over-fenders and mudflaps. Interiors offer exceptional cargo volume space when 2nd row and 3rd row seats are completely folded flat to the surface. In-an-all, the seating arrangement can be made in 6 different modes depending on the space and usage quantity. One of the appreciating feature of this min-van lookalike is sliding door which makes it easy to park the vehicle in tight spaces, ease entry & exit to the vehicle and adds distinctive feature to it. Fun segment is very basic, but moving on to higher variants, 10-inch roof monitor with stereo system and 4-speakers are provided.
Safety and handling of the vehicle is improvised with the presence of reliable suspension system with Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, airbags, keyless entry with with alarm, parking sensors and much more. In short, this 4-door MPV is a fair competent to every other drive in the passenger segment. However it is not very much loaded with entertainment and luxury features.
Mileage and Fuel economy
Equipped with 1.5-litre engine under hood, this vehicle is expected to take fuel consumption of 19.3 km/L, in combined driving cycle. Irrespective of the weight laden in the vehicle, city or highway you traverse, the mileage count lies around the mentioned figure.
Looking at the power-train produced by this 4-door commercial vehicle, the 1.5-litre DOHC, in-lined 4 cylinder 16V Dual CVTC engine doesn't deliver extra PS giving extra punch for overtakes. But, still, the power output given by it, 109 PS at 5600 rpm along with the peak torque of 143 Nm at 4000 rpm is quiet sufficient and durable to drive stress free in city or highways.
Acceleration & Pickup
Considering its overall size and total weight of passengers and cargo it carries, the acceleration count it delivers is decent enough, it breaches the speed mark from halt to 100km/h in a rather disappointing 19.2 seconds, but this is understandable for a dedicated passenger oriented minivan. The estimated top speed of the vehicle remains in the range of 130-150kmh.
The exterior profile of this 4-door passenger vehicle is made of intricate detailing added to its lay-out to make it look huge but in perfect dynamics. Front as well as rear bumper is kept in body color with the same colored door handles. Lower end of the bumper is placed with radiator grille made in chrome-finish with 'Evalia' embossed above it. Two similar creases flow on its small bonnet that hinge into slopping windscreen and vertical slats designed roof. Above all, the main USP of this vehicle is the sliding door with door edge protector which eases the entry/exit to the rear cabin and give this passenger vehicle touch of a mini-van. Rear end is labeled in attractive looking taillight, raised roof spoiler with high stop brake light and flattened rear end. Also, the rear cabins are completely separated on looking from sideways in distinctively kept blackish side mirrors, dark line on the lower end in between the wheelbase and small part of tail-light highlighting the rear end of the car.
Complete dimensions of this vehicle are kept in 4400mm x 1695mm x 1850mm (L x W x H) along with the wheelbase of 2725mm which is long enough to offer maximum space to its interior rear segments.
Coming to the interior segment of Evalia, it is fairly loaded with utility practical features which you may expect of being provided in a passenger vehicle. Its sliding door technique serves high-level of practicality during parking of the vehicle in tight spaces and low floor of loading. The interiors are decorated in components like instrumental cluster fitted on the dashboard integrated with a tripmeter and tachometer. Also, the cockpit features centrally placed music system, air conditioning, AC vents and glove box. Including all the cabins, 1st, 2nd and 3rd row it offers seating capacity to 7 passengers in supreme comfort. Although the 3rd row passengers will be left with small space as legroom. But, you may not feel disappointed with this, knowing that seating arrangement can be flickered as per your choice and demand in six different modes. To provide clear view of backside to the driver, rear wiper wipes off the screen and removes the mist, fog or water droplets.
Hoping up to the comfort and convenience segment in this car, it offers several features equipped in the available space besides 7 adults and some amount of luggage area. It allows keyless entry with intelligent key in the higher variants. Steering wheel can be adjusted your best-fit seating and driving position in coordination with the gear shifting panel, instrumental panel and driver seat. For stowing of your small things inside the cabin, it offers center compartment, door pockets, cup holders in sliding door, center console with cup holder, front cup holder, lower and upper glove box, 2nd row armrest and headrest and much more. For increased comfort and reducing suffocation, special rear cooler vent is placed in the 3rd row cabin.
The standard boot space Evalia offers is pretty less. But, as the concept of passenger vehicles is to accommodate more space to occupants rather than just focusing on cargo volume, it perfectly deals with the concept. The 1st row and 3rd row seats are flexible to folded flat to the surface, with reclining function, in 60/40 ratio split folding. Seat adjustment can be altered in 6-different modes. With 3rd row seats folding, boot space becomes 2100-litres. This figure can be further expanded to maximum level – 2900-litres on 2nd row seat folding as well.
