Nissan Serena Review
Nissan Serena is a spacious five-door MPV launched in the year 1991 in its first variant MKL C23. With the variant launch, it was declared as the slowest passenger vehicle during that time. Often, it was also referred as the worst car in terms of sale, but, this was not the end. Series of continual changes and modification have been done in its engine part, interior segment and exterior line. As a result of which, Nissan launched its fourth generation variant that gives a good output in terms of mileage and interior space. In Indonesia and other countries, Nissan Serena gives a stiff competition to its rivals with its revised edition.
Engine, Mileage & Variants
Nissan Serena is offered in total three variants in the market – Serena X, Serena HWS and Serena Autech. All these trim levels are powered in Nissan’s MR20 2.0-litre, direct-injection & Twin Continuously Variable valve Timing Control (CVTC) engine that successfully churns out power of 147 PS at 5600 rpm along with the high torque of 206 Nm at 4400 rpm. Packed with CVT transmission, it can breach the 100km/h speed mark from standstill in 15 seconds and the top speed of the car is 165kmph. Talking about its fuel consumption count, it takes 8.3-litres to cover 100km of distance, under standard driving conditions and much of this is due to the huge ergonomics of the drive.
Nissan Serena is a five-door minivan with dimensions slightly different for X trim and others. For Serena X trim, it is measured as 4685mm x 1695mm x 1865mm (L X W X H) and for other variants, proportions are 4700mm X 1735mm X 1865mm (L X W X H). Whereas, the wheelbase remains same for all the trims, 2860 mm. Due to its large exterior dimensions, it offers ample space inside due to which it has got ace ratings being a MPV. It has been embellished with chrome colored door handles, horizontal slat designed grille with company insignia emblemed on it, front fog lamps and high mounted stop light on the rear. The rear door opens up and close in sliding technique with just one touch pressing, making it easy to get-in the car. 7-spoked 16-inch alloy wheels fitted, are durable in complete tire size 195/60 R16.
It is one of the largest space offering MPV in the segment with variety of options to switch the mode: seat mode, multi table mode, armrest mode, tissue mode and many more. In short, in this car you can choose how you want the interiors to be, in-total it offers 14 different styles to which you can manage and accommodate your belongings, luggage, heavy-weight cargo's plus your presence. You will get the next-to-home ambiance sitting inside Serena. Besides, it also features mini storage houses including front storage compartment, glove box, front cup holder, backrest personal folding table, storage box underneath seat and much more. 2-DIN AM/FM, CD-Player, MP3, Aux-in, 10-inch roof mounted LCD screen (X level) keeps you entertained over journeys. Also, the Panoramic Autech variant allow the fresh air and light to get in & enjoy the open fields view.
Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous
Serena is fitted with good suspension and braking system, Independent McPherson Strut with stabilizer suspension in the front axle and torsion beam axle with stabilizer in the rear along with ventilated disc brakes in the front and rear disc brakes in all the variants. The turning radius of this MPV is 5.7 meters which guides you to maneuver the vehicle in tight spaces and corners. SRS airbag system is employed in front airbags for driver and front passenger, side airbag & 1st, 2nd, 3rd row curtain airbags. Other safety features associated with this MPV includes 3-point ELR pretensioner & load limiter front seat, braking system with ABS, EBD and Brake Assist, rear camera, parking sensor, intelligent key, immobilizer and much more.
Nissan Serena offers plenty of space for occupants and their belongings, in 14-different seating adjustment styles. Serena is pretty much the perfect family and cargo mini van in terms of space but if you want to get raging pick up numbers and quick acceleration, it may disappoint you.
