BMW Z4 is one of the most dominating roadster cars available globally. Generally these type of cars comprise of two seats with an open or convertible roof. The Z4 is a great car based on rear wheel driving mechanism and it also boasts a frugal and punchy engine. The history of the roadster cars from BMW started back in year 1956 with the BMW 507, after which the company introduced many new products over the same platform but kept them to limited numbers due to their incompatible natureBMW Z4 - Indonesia with the mass market. The engines on offer are well equipped with 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter displacement options.
The BMW Z4 is available in two engine options. The first one is a 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled DOHC in-line 4 cylinder 16 valve engine; BMW calls it sDrive20i. This engine churns out 184 hp of power at 5000 rpm with torque equal to 270 Nm at the flat rpm range from 1250 to 4500 counts. This engine accelerates to 100 kmph in just 6.9 seconds while returning fuel efficiency worth 14.7 kmpl. The second machine on offer is a 3.0-liter twin turbo in-line 6-cylinder engine; BMW named it sDrive35i. This engine is capable to generate 306 hp of power at 5800 rpm with 400 Nm of torque at 1300 rpm to 5000 rpm. This engine has got better acceleration figures which touches 0 to 100 kmph mark in just 5.2 seconds with average mileage being 10.6 kmpl.
The Z4 carries the characteristics of a true sports car which adds practicality of driving in city and highway roads. It has a low ground clearance for good stick over the way, but will be troubling at times. The car has a stretched body with 4239 mm of length, 1790 mm of width and 1291 mm of height. The roadster design of the Z4 gets it an elongated bonnet which makes the car look lengthy and robust. The familiar kidney grill at the front is great to look at with wrapped around dual bi-Xenon headlights. The sophisticated looks doesn't allow it to be puled over the race tracks but can be used well over the highways.
The car is composed of spacious cabin with a small storage area for knick knacks. The refinement in the material quality is great. It comes with optional satellite navigation equipment at an extra cost. The LED lightening system and contrast stitched leather on dashboard and steering wheel is splendid. The seats are also perfect and comes with optional packages as well. Alike other BMW cars, it also gets the iDrive interface with the command dial to take over the vehicle's information. With a 8.8-inch touchscreen alongside Hi-Fi Professional sound system, it has all the major bells and whistles. At the boot, the roof is convertible and you won't be getting a huge storage area, but 180 liters with roof down and 310 liters with roof up is there for use.
The Z4 rides well and controls all the major issues with itself. The refinement is well mannered, but it has a tight competition with Porsche Boxster. The Z4 has a good handling and maneuverability, but at times the steering gets too tight to be played and enjoyed. However, it becomes convenient to roll out the same due to high speed stability norms. The 17-inch alloy wheels perform well with their firm grip over the tracks. BMW has also added few perks for added safety like the park distance control to display the car's movement better. Apart from that all the basic passive safety features like ABS, EBD and BA are made available in BMW Z4.
The BMW Z4 is one of the few true roadsters available in the world. The car has a lot of character and bold personality which is inherited from the brand's other sort of vehicles. It has a long way to go against the likes of Porsche and Mercedes. But, the car has the punch to make them look for an option.
