Kawasaki Versys 1000 Review
The iconic Kawasaki Z series needs no introduction, since its advent in the year 1972, Kawasaki Z series bikes have always pushed the envelope by extruding top-notch performance, cutting-edge technologies, and astonishing design. The Z1000, eldest beast of this stable, was crafted to take bike riding to an all new pinnacle. The current Z1000 was first introduced in the year 2010, wherein instead on building on the existing platform, Kawasaki crafted this devilish bike from the scratch. Engine, Economy & Performance
As Versys is the first adventure tourer from Kawasaki, this Japanese brand wanted to leave no stone unturned. To make Versys 1000 an all rounder, Kawasaki installed it with a colossal 1,043cc, Four-stroke, Liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valves per cylinder, Inline-four engine, that churns out a blazing 120bhp at 9,000rpm and a maximum torque of 102NM at 7,500 rpm. Mated with a smooth six-speed transmission, the engine delivers superb throttle response and strong torque at all rpm. The fuel injected engine has been configured with 38mm Keihin throttle bodies that ensure a crisp throttle response with a seamless flow of power.
Being an adventurer tourer, Versys 1000 had to bestow a comfortable ride during long hauls and to ensure this Kawasaki has instilled various novelties, enhancing its comfort factor. Versys 1000 is based on a lightweight, but sturdy and rigid aluminum frame that contribute to its sharp and firm handling. Furthermore, a new rubber mounts on the engine prevents vibration and enables greater handling and stability. Designed to bestow a pleasing ride, Versys 1000 has an upright riding position, that enables easy machine control. Versys seat is made of deep cushioning and tailor-designed seat material which offers excellent comfort for long-distance riding. To avail a stress-free and comfortable ride, Kawasaki has assisted this 1000cc adventure tourer with Kayaba 43mm inverted fork up front and Horizontal back-link shock with adjustable rebound damping and adjustable spring preload at the rear end.
Safety, Braking, and Miscellaneous
Kawasaki ensures all its models come with proper safety gear to handle its colossal performance. Similar to other stables from this Japanese factory, the Versys 1000 also comes equipped with a high-end braking mechanism. Thanks to the leading dual 310mm rotor petal disc brakes with four piston calipers at the front and single 250mm petal disc brake with single piston caliper at the rear, the bike comes to standstill at once, even on top speeds. This braking is further refined with the incorporation of a high-performance ABS unit to the package. The bike is also installed with a race inspired Assist and Slipper clutch technology that offers both a back-torque limiting function as well as a much lighter feel at the lever. Apart from this, Kawasaki Versys 1000 comes with a traction control system as well to ensure that the bike does not lose control under adverse riding and road conditions.
Kawasaki has made a great adventurer tourer for its first attempt. The bike have a sport yet aggressive look, potent engine and a comfortable and smooth riding. Integrated with advanced safety gear, like ABS and Traction control, the bike offers a great deal in this price range. However riding the bike around the city can be a bit stressful due to its heavyweight.
