Known for manufacturing range of small models and off-road vehicles, this Japanese first ever automobile manufacturing firm was set up in the year 1907. More than a 100 year expertise in automobile industry, this Japanese auto marque has bestowed the world with a wide range of commercial vehicles. Yet again with the launch of facelifted version of Daihatsu Gran Max PU, the brand has gifted the world with a new range of pick up truck. Replacing the Daihatsu Zebra, the Gran Max was first launched in the year 2007. With dynamic new design, the new Gran Max has done a couple of decent alters to the vehicle, that eventually adds to the flamboyant look of the car.
In order to meet the demands and the utility, the brand has introduced its three trim levels- Pick up, Blind van and Box, each having a 1.3-litre and a 1.5-litre gasoline variants. With 1.3-litre motor, the pick up goes for a maximum power of 88 PS at 6000 rpm and peak torque value of 114 Nm at 4400 rpm. On the other hand the 1.5-litre engine churns out 97 PS at 6000 rpm, with a maximum torque delivery of 133 Nm at 4400 rpm. Efficient fuel injection technology and VVT-i equipped in the engine allows it to deliver a decent mileage of 13.33 km/L.
With robust new design, the pick up holds a decent aerodynamic trait and offers ample safety against collisions. Extensive cargo area of the truck has ample space to accommodates heavy load of goods. Bed liners on the truck bed offers sufficient grip to the goods, in order to prevent it from unstableness. Apart from carrying bulky goods the energy absorbing high strength chassis of the pick up is capable of availing a stable ride even in rugged terrains. Having a measurement range of 4045mm-4285mm X 1665mm-1675mm X 1850mm-2070mm (LXWXH), the pick up holds a decent cargo area dimension of 2350mm X 1585mm X 360mm. With a 13-inch rim size, the rollers are potent enough to transport heavy goods to places.
Being the only class to settle 3 persons at a time, the interior of the pick up holds ample space to make the occupants comfortable. Ergonomic chair and its manually adjustable seating parameters avails you with a comfortable driving position. Limited distance between the steering wheel and the gear shifter allows you to have a easy and brisk shifting of gear. Arm rest integrated near the door also adds to the comfort factor of the vehicle. Rack and pinion steering arrangement with optional power steering feature equipped in the car offers easy maneuvering at sharp turns, thus providing a comfortable driving experience.
Ventilated disc with boosters at the front and drum brakes at the rear offer an efficient braking all through the drive. The combination of McPherson strut at the front and leaf spring at the rear offers a stabilized and comfortable ride even when carrying heavy load of goods. With dynamic body work, this is most 'resistant to flooding' vehicle, than any other in its class. The robust body structure of the pick up has crumple zones, that lets you escape from fatal injuries during collisions.
Looking on to the design perspective, the pick up should be given an extra star, as compared to the rivals of its segments. Apart from these, it also holds a decent loading capacity and nice power to weight ratio.
