Manufactured by Tata Motors, Tata Aria is a crossover SUV which was unveiled on 5th January 2010 at Auto Expo, Delhi. After the launch, it was available from 12th October 2010 in the market. The Tata Aria is based on the concept of Tata Xover which was revealed in 2006 Geneva Motor Show. The car is a blend of an MPV, Sedan and SUV and is comparable with Toyota Innova for its looks and features. Tata Aria offers a series of concept cars which was also introduced by Tata Motors at Geneva Auto Show 2000. However, loaded with tech, the car wasn't enough to impress the public for a longer duration.
The engine offered by Tata Aria is tuned up to a powerful 2.2-litre 4 cylinder DICOR engine displaying 140 PS at 4000 rpm with the maximum torque of 320 Nm at 1700- 2700 rpm. It is a frugal engine which delivers the power via 5-speed manual transmission to all four wheels, however, it has optional 2 wheel drive. The mileage delivered by Aria is 15.1 kmpl in the city and 19.2 kmpl on the highway. It offers high ground clearance which helps to go easy on rugged and flooded roads. Tata Motors has also introduced the Automatic transmission variants of the car with a more powerful diesel engine.
An MPV by design and SUV by performance, Tata Aria offers an excellent driving experience on and off the road. The front view of the car defined by double barrel headlamps with projector beam. It has a separate bulb for low and high beam and tend to provide better illumination from other headlights. The mirrors on the outer part can be automatically adjusted for greater visibility. In terms of the overall dimensions, Aria offers a good dimensional figure with 4780 mm of length, 1895 mm of width and 1780 mm of height with the ground clearance of 200 mm.
Tata Aria is one of the best looking MPV's on both inside and outside. It comes with a seating arrangement of three rows capable of occupying 7 passengers. Aria gets loaded with enough space for passengers, especially for the adjustable driver seat. All the seats are covered with a leather upholstery coloured in a format of black and beige colour along with the wooden inserts. The door handles on all the sides are covered with chrome inserts that display a clean and organized design. What is likable and most worthy is the 342-litres of boot space that offers a huge amount of room for extra luggage which can further be increased by folding the third-row seat. The 2-Din music system with CD/MP3 player delivers quality driver sound to 6 speakers.
A reasonably practical seven-seater Tata Aria offers an array of safety features that ensures the ultimate safety of all the passengers in case of an emergency. Tata has incorporated the SUV with 6 airbags for the front and rear seat passengers. Features like Electronic stability program, traction control system, keyless entry with immobilizer, perimetric alarm system, side curtain airbags and front seats belts with pre-tensioners ensures the overall safety. The ventilated discs brakes for front and disc brakes for rear tyres are used with a drag coefficient of 0.29.
It offers a spacious cabin and an array of convenience features. However, the legroom in the third row seems tight and uncomfortable along with the mounted control functions on the steering wheel.
