Proton Exora, a compact MPV is produced by a Malaysian car manufacturer on 15th April 2009. It is one of the first homegrown MPV which is based on the new P2 platform. It became the first car to utilise CamPro EFE turbocharged engine with CVT technology in Malaysia. For the Indonesian market, Proton replaced Exora with the new Exora CFE which went on a sale and became the cheapest MPV of all times. To start from the cabin, the steering wheel is nicely sized with audio settings to look comparable to the Honda-Civic's. The gearshift is fitted in a way which is approachable within drivers reach. The 7 seater Proton Exora is an ideal family vehicle which offers spacious and comfortable interior features. It is equipped with built-in DVD player in double din head unit which gives you access to GPS navigation system to guide you on your way to the destination. The Double Blower AC system is fitted in between for the overall ventilation for rear seat passengers as well. The Exora Star Supreme model is fitted with roof mounted DVD player which entertain you while travelling on long journeys. The boot space as compared with other MPV's in the segment is generous with an abundance of storage space. The middle and rear seats can be folded flat for a relatively wide transport goods. The second-row seat can be folded as 60/40 split while the third-row seat has 50/50 setup.
Proton Exora uses a low-pressure turbo-petrol 1.6-litre CAPRO CPS 4 cylinder DOHC 16 valve engine which delivers the maximum output of 125 hp at 6,500 rpm and maximum torque of 150 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The engine which is offered benefits from the efficiency of a CVT automatic transmission system that is in the correct ratio for the engine's torque. The fuel consumed from 55 litres of fuel tank is 7.8-litres for 100 km. It catches the 100 kmph mark in 13.1 seconds while reaching the top speed of 170km/h.
Proton Exora Star FLX uses Double Din Head Unit car stereo that sits in between the dashboard and front passenger seat. It is integrated with an input of a CD/MP3 player, GPS navigation, Bluetooth and in-car DVD player. The stereo system is perfect for long and short trips with all the necessary control functions to control the speaker and audio system. The double din head unit is now available with the latest technology. Not only with the CD and DVD inputs, it also acts as a WIFI hotspot or a Bluetooth head unit for connectivity inside the car while travelling. Some of the advanced version of the stereo system are also armed with Siri Eyes Free which enables the voice control of an iOS mobile.
The car features the 195/65 R15 sized wheels with steel rims which absorb most of the shocks and protect the car from deformation.
The front and rear tyres use ventilated disc and drum types respectively. The ventilated disc type brakes are used for high-performance cars and drum type brakes are rusty and is used for rear tyres. Proton Exora is also armed with Anti-lock braking system that is considered to be the most efficient application for controlling brakes on slippery surfaces.
In terms of safety measures, Proton Exora Star FLX has been awarded 4 star ANCAP safety rating which is applicable to all the variants. The rating programme is rated on the basis of pedestrian protection and collision avoidance capabilities. Proton in the crash test has successfully advanced some of the safety features which ensures the overall safety of passengers. The Exora scored 10.55 out of 16 points in the offset crash and in side impact crash it attained 14.82 out of 16 points. Some of the other safety features like Parking sensors, child safety locks, rear seat belts, brake assist, crash sensor, Anti-theft alarm, Door Ajar warning, engine immobiliser, and dual SRS airbags for front and rear passengers. Additionally, the seatbelts for front and rear passengers are equipped with pre-tensioner and load limiter that reduces the chest moment and force applied to the chest from the belt.
