Mitsubishi Motors is known for its exceedingly efficient and refined drives. The manufacturer excels in pick-up division more than anything else, and one fine live example of the case is Mitsubishi Strada Triton, a dedicated all-muscle pick-up with 5-seater passenger capacity introduced in the year 1978. Earlier, it was launched with the name Mitsubishi Forte but with further advancements and refurbishment the vehicle got a make-over and badged with the name “Strada Triton” to Japan and other countries. Talking about its presence in Indonesia, it has launched seven variants of the vehicle named as – Strada Triton HDX, GLS, GLS+Airbags, HDX, GLX, Triton Exceed MT HP and Exceed AT HP trims.

These variants are equipped in both petrol and diesel engines with varying transmission system and power output associated. The 2.5-litre 16-valve DOHC in-lined 4 cylinder generates an optimum output ranging from 90-178 PS with the maximum torque of 196-314 Nm. The other unit with 2.9-litre motor house, produces power of 97 PS at 4000 rpm and high torque of 198 Nm at 2000 rpm. This dissimilitude in power is due to the responsive 5-speed manual transmission and Sports mode associated with the engines. Besides the transmission, solid muscular frame of the Strada Triton and its aerodynamic body design states the strong performance bagged with advanced suspension, strong brakes and rack-and-pinion steering wheel. Exterior structure is redefined adding sportiness to the appearance with projector headlamps, newly designed grille and sturdy front bumper. It is surely not made to weigh just your big cargo-boxes, it can also weigh your hefty demands and leisure segment. The interiors are lined in leather/fabric in the variants and offer several utility small cabins, making life easy for its occupants on-board. These utility cabins, room lights and embedded 1/2-DIN stereo system with 6-speakers set a different arena for the pick-up truck class. Alongside, other safety features are also equipped with this massive vehicle that keeps the occupants calm in emergency cases. Dual SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), front seatbelt pretensioner, security alarm are some of them.

Mileage and Fuel economy

Mitsubishi Strada Triton variants deliver a good mileage with an average of 8.6 L/100km with its different engine units. However, figures slightly differ for those with petrol and diesel units. But, considering an average figure, mentioned count is worth appreciating for a vehicle of this size.

Available variants of Mitsubishi Strada Triton vary in its overall length which measures as 5040 mm for Triton HDX, GLS, GLS+Airbags, HDX, GLX and 5115 mm for Triton Exceed MT HP and Exceed AT HP trims. Width ranges from 1750 mm to 1800 mm for the same vehicle. Height is measured as 1655, 1775, 1795 and 1780 mm for the different variants. Mitsubishi Strada Triton offers seating capacity to 5-passengers at a time with extensive cargo space in the rear. The driver's seat is provided with the manual reclining and height adjustable headrest for comfort seating position which is ergonomically set with 4-spoked leather/urethane covered steering wheel. In the direction of steering wheel, black-faced back lit meters and instrumental gauges with tachometers surrounded by silver rings are set which provide useful information to the driver.

The interiors of this pick-up is not just designed to carry heavy weights on long runs; it also offers intelligently set utility spaces made for passengers inside wherein you can keep the small handy things like bottles, sheets, sunglasses, etc. The storage compartments includes front door pockets with bottle holders, lockable and illuminated glove box, rear door bottle holders, cigarette lighter, removable cup type ashtray, scuff plate, ticket holder for driver's sunvisor, vanity mirror with lid for front passenger's sunvisor, sunglasses pocket on overhead console, floor console box, rear centre armrest with cup holders and much more. For discharged gadgets, mobile phone and other electronic accessories, 12V socket on floor console armrest is provided. Rear windows are provided with functional power sliding anti-trapping feature and drivers side power window with anti-pinch function.

Interior Measurements

Mitsubishi Strada Triton pick up variants come with an impressive cargo volume of 1520mm in length, 1470mm in width and 475mm in height. With these measurements, it can accommodate heavy cargo's.

Engine and Performance

Mitsubishi Strada Triton offer 7 variants of the vehicle to Indonesians powered with two engine units – 2.5-litre DOHC/SOHC 16 Valve, inline 4-Cylinder and 2.9-litre SOHC, inline 4-Cylinder. The 2.5-litre 16-valve DOHC in-lined 4 cylinder churn out maximum power output ranging from 90-178 PS with the peak torque of about 196-314 Nm. The other engine unit with 2.9-litre motor house, produces power of 97 PS at 4000 rpm and high torque of 198 Nm at 2000 rpm. All the variants of the vehicle are coupled with 5-speed manual transmission for improvised fuel economy and personalized control over the gearbox. In addition, Exceed AT HP is accompanied with INVEC II sport mode for quick acceleration and agile riding.

Stereo and Accessories

Strada Triton features stereo, audio and other entertainment segments differently in the available variants. Almost all the trims are embedded with in-house 1-DIN audio system with AM/FM, CD player, MP3 player and auxiliary input where you can connect the other devices and play your favourite tunes. Only Exceed MT HP and Exceed AT HP variants are equipped with 2-DIN audio system again packed with AM/FM CD MP3 WMA players, USB jack and remote control feature. In-an-all, the stereo system gives sound output surrounded with 4 to 6 speakers depending on the variant you choose. Bluetooth connectivity allow further connection of the external devices like your phone with the interface.


Strada Triton variants comes fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels comprising of tyre size 245/75 R16 for front wheels and 245/75 R16 for rear wheels. Only for Triton GLX, wheels measurement is different from other trims. The tires support your ride and built-up confidence in you to chase the pathway.

Braking and Handling

To ensure a safe ride, Strada Triton variants have ventilated disc brakes on the front wheels and leading-and-trailing drum brakes on the rear wheels. These brakes are mated with independent wishbone, coil springs, shock absorber and stabilizer suspension in the front and rigid, elliptic leaf springs and shock absorber suspension in the rear axle with rack and pinion steering to ensure smooth drive on any type of road without the worry of getting skid. Also 4WD, 2WD and 4WD low range mode allows you to switch to the compatible mode based on the surface you are going to travel. 2WD is best-fit for the highways and plain surfaces where rear wheel power accelerates the vehicle and deliver fuel economic results. 4WD drive is made for uneven surfaces where all wheels receive torque keeping the vehicle on track. In worst situations while taking off-road handling of the vehicle, 4WD low range will solve the purpose so as to produce maximum traction through mud and sand.

Safety and Security

Safety has been kept as an integral part in Strada Triton variants. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) manoeuvres the vehicle safely in adverse conditions under extreme braking by applying suitable brakeforce to all the wheels and brings the vehicle to halt. Front & rear door with impact bar, front seatbelt pretensioner, security alarm, dual SRS airbags for driver and front seat passenger are given almost in all the variants of Mitsubishi Triton. The raised profile i.e. Mitsubishi RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) protects the exterior body from collision taking uneven road surfaces and indirectly prevents the occupants from possible damage.
