Honda CR-Z Review
The Japanese automaker, Honda never restricts its area of innovations, which the giant has appropriately proved by its new innovation the all new Honda CR-Z. The car is a sport compact hybrid electric vehicle which was marketed by the company as a 'sport hybrid coupe'. The hybrid coupe was first introduced as a concept vehicle in 2007 at the Tokyo Motor Show and was designed with an expectation to earn margins in a special segment of buyers who desire a stylish and sporty hybrid car with an efficient and powerful performance. The hybrid car can never be underestimated with its well-fed technology and distinctive features like the AT-PZEV (Advanced Technology Partial Zero-Emission Vehicle) installed to excel at efficiency, Idle-Stop system and Integrated Motor Assist that couples the engine and the electric motor.
Engine, Mileage and Variants
The car comes in two variants which vary in terms of transmission – 6-speed manual transmission or the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Both the variants extract power from the same oil burning mill, 1.5-litre SOHC (Single Overhead Camshaft) 4-cylinder, 16 valve i-VTEC (intelligent Valve Timing with Lift Electronic Control) with DBW (Drive By Wire) technology, which churns out a maximum power of 120 PS at 6600 rpm and a maximum torque of 144 Nm at 4800 rpm. This engine has the potential to catapult the car from 0 to 100km/h in just 8.8 sec and allows the car to fly with a top speed of 200 kmph. Being a hybird, Honda CR-Z excels in the mileage aspect as well, delivering the count of 17 kmpl.
The car is given a purely stylish and sporty exterior design, which surely derives an impressive appeal for the car. The designers have wholeheartedly applied their artistic sense to their aerodynamic knowledge in designing the car's exterior body. The features like the large honeycomb radiator grille, dazzling HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlights with LED daytime Running Lights, tilted aerodynamic bonnet design and the circular foglamps amidst the lower air inlets precisely accentuate the front look of the car. The sporty trait of the car is added by the stylish LED combination lights, shark fin antenna and rear spoiler. Another expressive feature of the car is its sporty and awe-inspiring 16-inch alloy wheels that decrease the unsprung weight, enhancing suspension system performance. Interior designing of the car is done with a lot of dedication, the interior designers have given the cabins a comfortable and pleasurable ambience along with a sporty touch. The engineers have made the driving controls intuitive by incorporating a ergonomically designed control panel and well-configured and illuminated infotainment system. The car features a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel with an exclusive S+ button, which boosts speed, leather covered shift knob, textured aluminium pedals and rear view camera that adds to the driving pleasure for the driver. Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous
The compact hybrid car envelopes its passengers with a long list of safety features, which includes the braking assists like the ABS (Antilock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution), rear view camera, Pedestrian Protection system, Side Impact Beam, engine immobilizer, auto-lock system, front airbags, curtain airbags and side airbags with OPDS (Occupant Position Detection System) and keyless entry. The efficient braking system encased in the car consists of ventilated disc brakes on the front wheels and solid discs at the rear. The coupe despite of being a hybrid car compromises nowhere in exterior styling, power, efficiency or driving dynamics and will surely please the owner unless he does not mind the little niggles in the comfort part. The biggest add-on however remains the mileage, which bundled with performance factor makes CR-Z the go-to car in segment.
